Biodiversity protection workshops

As part of the network of Friends of Bushland reserves you and your group play an important role in assisting with the conservation of the
biodiversity values in and around your reserve. As a thank you to the bushland volunteers these workshops will supply the basic training needs and knowledge in plant identification, fauna habitat requirements, weed control techniques and the theory behind bush regeneration to
empower you to manage bushland .
This will be aimed at beginner to intermediate level bushland regenerator and will lead into future planned training packages that will be offered to volunteers such as the Greening Australia Habitat Conservation and Management course.

Shire would like to invite our bushland volunteers to a series of four workshops
across the 2010 calendar year.

Workshop1- Bush Regeneration
Take a step back and look at the big picture.
Threats to Biodiversity.
Ecology principals.
Three sessions are available as follows.
Wednesday April the 28th 2010. 2pm- 5pm.
Thursday April the 29th 2010. 6pm - 9pm.
Saturday the 24th 2010. 10am- 1pm
Workshop 2 - Weed control techniques
Physical, mechanical, chemical biological.
Weed identification and treatment.
Working with chemicals
Three sessions are available as follows.
Wednesday June the 16th 2010. 2pm- 5pm.
Thursday June the 17th 2010. 6pm - 9pm.
Saturday June the 19th 2010. 10am- 1pm
Workshop 3- Fauna protection and habitat restoration
Interpreting fauna surveys.
Understanding the requirements for individual species.
Significant habitat attributes.
Three sessions are available and area as follows.
Wednesday September the 8th 2010. 2pm- 5pm.
Thursday September the 9th 2010. 6pm - 9pm.
Saturday September the 11th 2010. 10am- 1pm

Basic botany
Tools for plant identification
Field trip
Common native and introduced species that can be confused.
Three sessions are available as follows.
Wednesday November the 10th 2010. 2pm- 5pm.
Thursday November the 11th 2010. 6pm - 9pm.
Saturday November the 13th 2010. 10am- 1pm
