Petition to Parliament

Petition to Parliament.
More than 90% of native vegetation on the Mornington Peninsula has been lost since European settlement. A 3.1 hectare refuge of very high conservation significance in the heart of Rye is in danger of subdivision (see green square emcircled with red in image). We petition the State Government to act on its Biodiversity 2037 Plan to stop the decline of native flora and fauna and improve our natural environment over the next twenty years. This bushland with environmentally significant native plants and grasses, orchids, old Moonah woodland and native birds must be conserved.

Please download the petition, forward it to your networks and get signatures.  It is important that the petition is filled out correctly on the form provided or Parliament will not accept it. Names and addresses must be complete and printed (i.e.no scanned copies or suburb listing only). As pages of signatures fill up they can be posted to Nepean Conservation Group Inc. P.O Box 157 Sorrento Vic 3943. Thank you for your support.

Nepean Conservation Group 2017 AGM

Saturday 18 February 2017

@ Badcoe Hall Point Nepean National Park @ 3:30pm

Guest speaker - David Gabriel-Jones

David Gabriel-Jones is Principal of The Public Land Consultancy (TPLC), which provides independent advice to managers and users of Crown land and other public land.  TPLC’s territory is the governance of parks and reserves, roads and lanes, rivers and coasts.   Before founding TPLC David worked for VicRoads, DSE, the Royal Botanic Gardens, and was a Trustee of Yarra Bend Park.

David’s talk will be on the governance of foreshores and off-shore areas.

He will look at the deficiencies of the current Coastal Management Act, and argue that in framing the new Coastal and Marine Act, government should consider a major reworking of coastal jurisdictions, coastal tenures, and coastal funding.  He will also suggest expanded advocacy roles for conservation groups.
